E L James "Fifty Shades Freed"
ISBN: 1612130607, 0345803507 | 2012 | PDF | 466 pages | 0,8 MB

When unworldly student Ana Steele first encountered the driven, damaged young entrepreneur Christian Grey, it sparked a sensual affair that changed both their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular sexual tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment; determined to keep her, Christian agreed. Now, together, they have more—love, passion, intimacy, wealth, and a world of infinite possibilities. But Ana always knew that loving her Fifty Shades would not be easy and being together poses challenges neither of them ever anticipated. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity, or independence; Christian must somehow overcome his compulsion to control and lay to rest the horrors that blighted his past and haunt his present. Just when it seems that together their love can conquer any obstacle, tragedy, malice and fate combine to make Ana’s worst nightmares come true.

Ted Gilley - Bliss and Other Short Stories

Publisher: Bisоn Boоks | 2010-09-01 | ISBN: 0803232616 | PDF | 136 pages | 1.12 MB

Winner of the Prairie Schooner Book Prize in Fiction, this daring collection of nine stories introduces readers to an edgy vision and a world in which certainties are tested and found wanting. A Cambodian refugee negotiates the icy waters of American social and sexual life. A young couple seeks “peak experiences” to escape grief, only to discover that they’ve brought it along with them. A teenage girl, unable to face the imminent end of her grandfather’s life, risks her own life in an impulsive act. A man’s fragile hold on reality becomes the key to his finding, albeit through a terrifying labyrinth, his heart’s desire. The characters in Bliss and Other Short Stories must find their way to a truth that, though less than perfect, is one they can live with. Finding bliss, it seems, is as much about pain as about pleasure, and in Ted Gilley’s writing the discovery is always exquisite.

John T. Chalcraft - The Striking Cabbies of Cairo and Other Stories: Crafts and Guilds in Egypt, 1863-1914

Published: 2004 | ISBN: 0791461440, 0791461432 | PDF | 285 pages | 2.31 MB

This book charts new directions in Egyptian social history, providing the first systematic account of adaptation and protest among crafts and service workers in Egypt in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Using a wealth of new sources, John T. Chalcraft challenges conventional notions of craft stagnation and decline by recovering the largely unknown histories of crafts workers' restructuring in the face of world economic integration, and their petitions, demonstrations, and strikeaction at a time of statebuilding and colonial rule. Chalcraft demonstrates the economic importance of petty producers and service providers, and tells the story of widespread collective assertion couched in new discourses of citizenship and nationalism. He also gives a new interpretation of the end of the guilds in Egypt and addresses larger debates about unevenness under capitalism.

John Firman, Ann Gila - Psychosynthesis: A Psychology of the Spirit
Published: 2002-09-26 | ISBN: 0791455343, 0791455335 | PDF | 292 pages | 1.32 MB

Conceived by Italian psychiatrist Roberto Assagioli, psychosynthesis is one of the first Western psychologies that addresses both spiritual development and psychological healing and growth by recognizing and supporting the particular life journey of the person-the individual's own unique path of Self-realization. Firman and Gila present a comprehensive account of psychosynthesis, providing a transpersonal integration of developmental, personality, and clinical theory. They reveal some of the relationships between psychosynthesis and contemporary developmental research, object relations theory, intersubjective psychology, trauma theory, the recovery movement, Jungian psychology, humanistic and transpersonal psychology, and common psychological diagnoses. Case examples, practical theory, and experiential exercises designed to support both the layperson and the professional seeking to understand and facilitate psychospiritual growth are included.

The Oxford Book of Short Stories By V.S. Pritchett
Publisher: O==U\]P 1981 | 576 Pages | ISBN: 0192141163 | PDF | 5 MB

V. S. Pritchett, one of our greatest short story writers, has chosen forty-one stories from nine countries written in the English language for this volume, producing a collection that successfully displays the wealth and variety of an art that spans some 200 years. The United States, Great Britain, and Ireland have fine traditions of short story writing that have developed from the time of Sir Walter Scott and Nathaniel Hawthorne. In the twentieth century the art was perfected by Ernest Hemingway, D. H. Lawrence, W. Somerset Maugham, John Updike, and V. S. Pritchett himself. Other contributions in the book come from such masters as James Joyce, Mark Twain, Henry James, Rudyard Kipling, Frank O'Connor, H. E. Bates, William Trevor, and Liam O'Flaherty. Now, the collection of short story masters extends to Canadian, Indian, New Zealander, and Australian writers, who show in the works included here the full range of invention and ability in a genre that continues to flourish.

#tweetsmart: 25 Twitter Projects to Help You Build Your Community By J. S. McDougall
Publisher: O'R[eill]y Me[dia] 2012 | 106 Pages | ISBN: 1449309119 | | 2 MB + 4 MB

"OK. I’ve got my Twitter account…now what can I do with it?" Sound familiar? #tweetsmart provides the answer with 25 creative projects to help your business, cause, or organization grow. But this isn’t just another social media marketing book—it’s the anti-marketing how-to community-engagement book.
Twitter is not a marketing channel (and should never be used as such) but it is a community of interested, engaged, and influential people. Meeting and getting to know these people can help you build your own community. In this useful guide, you’ll find projects to help you approach your Twitter audience in ways that are strategic, measurable, and fun.

  • Put a new wrinkle on an old contest: "be the 10th person to tweet"
  • Create a hashtag game around your company or products
  • Instead of polling, ask your followers to help you make a product decision
  • Make MadLibs out of your marketing copy or mission statement
  • Hold a scavenger hunt, and relay clues via Twitter
  • Organize a weekly Twitter chat on various subjects
  • Solicit funny product shots, using Twitter’s photo-sharing utility
  • Spontaneously tweet from a store location: "Meet me now and win!"

Southern Frontier Humor: An Anthology By Thomas Inge, Edward Piacentino
Publisher: Un[ivers]ity of Mis[sou]ri 2010 | 360 Pages | ISBN: 0826218865 | PDF | 9 MB

If, as some suggest, American literature began with Huckleberry Finn, then the humorists of the Old South surely helped us to shape that literature. Twain himself learned to write by reading the humorists’ work, and later writers were influenced by it. This book marks the first new collection of humor from that region published in fifteen years—and the first fresh selection of sketches and tales to appear in over forty years.
Thomas Inge and Ed Piacentino bring their knowledge of and fondness for this genre to a collection that reflects the considerable body of scholarship that has been published on its major figures and the place of the movement in American literary history. They breathe new life into the subject, gathering a new selection of texts and adding Twain—the only major American author to contribute to and emerge from the movement—as well as several recently identified humorists.
All of the major writers are represented, from Augustus Baldwin Longstreet to Thomas Bangs Thorpe, as well as a great many lesser-known figures like Hamilton C. Jones, Joseph M. Field, and John S. Robb. The anthology also includes several writers only recently discovered to be a part of the tradition, such as Joseph Gault, Christopher Mason Haile, James Edward Henry, and Marcus Lafayette Byrn, and features authors previously overlooked, such as William Gilmore Simms, Ham Jones, Orlando Benedict Mayer, and Adam Summer.
Selections are timely, reflecting recent trends in literary history and criticism sensitive to issues of gender, race, and ethnicity. The editors have also taken pains to seek out first printings to avoid the kinds of textual corruptions that often occur in later versions of these sketches. Southern Frontier Humor offers students and general readers alike a broad perspective and new appreciation of this singular form of writing from the Old South—and provides some chuckles along the way.

American Gods: A Novel by Neil Gaiman (Repost)
Publisher: Harper Perennial; Later printing edition (September 2, 2003) | ISBN: 0060558121 | Pages: 624 | PDF | 3.84 MB

American Gods is Neil Gaiman's best and most ambitious novel yet, a scary, strange, and hallucinogenic road-trip story wrapped around a deep examination of the American spirit. Gaiman tackles everything from the onslaught of the information age to the meaning of death, but he doesn't sacrifice the razor-sharp plotting and narrative style he's been delivering since his Sandman days.

Shadow gets out of prison early when his wife is killed in a car crash. At a loss, he takes up with a mysterious character called Wednesday, who is much more than he appears. In fact, Wednesday is an old god, once known as Odin the All-father, who is roaming America rounding up his forgotten fellows in preparation for an epic battle against the upstart deities of the Internet, credit cards, television, and all that is wired. Shadow agrees to help Wednesday, and they whirl through a psycho-spiritual storm that becomes all too real in its manifestations. For instance, Shadow's dead wife Laura keeps showing up, and not just as a ghost--the difficulty of their continuing relationship is by turns grim and darkly funny, just like the rest of the book.

Armed only with some coin tricks and a sense of purpose, Shadow travels through, around, and underneath the visible surface of things, digging up all the powerful myths Americans brought with them in their journeys to this land as well as the ones that were already here. Shadow's road story is the heart of the novel, and it's here that Gaiman offers up the details that make this such a cinematic book--the distinctly American foods and diversions, the bizarre roadside attractions, the decrepit gods reduced to shell games and prostitution. "This is a bad land for Gods," says Shadow.

More than a tourist in America, but not a native, Neil Gaiman offers an outside-in and inside-out perspective on the soul and spirituality of the country--our obsessions with money and power, our jumbled religious heritage and its societal outcomes, and the millennial decisions we face about what's real and what's not.

On Ancient Philosophy By John Peterman
Publisher: Wa[dsw]orth P[ublish]ing 2008 | 249 Pages | ISBN: 0534595723 | PDF | 1 MB

ON ANCIENT PHILOSOPHY offers a fresh look at the ancient Greek philosophers, helping the reader find the connections between their philosophies and our own. Intended for both classroom use and a general audience, this book provides an overview of ancient Greek history and culture, extensive chapters on the Pre-Socratics, Plato and Aristotle, and individual chapters on the Sophists, Socrates, and Philosophy after Aristotle. Greek philosophy is dynamic, provocative, and erotic-full of the restlessness of inquiry from the epigrams of Heraclitus and the paradoxes of Zeno to the dialogues of Plato and Aristotle's search for an adequate starting point. This book captures the movement of each thinker's response to his problems, the exchange between various thinkers, and the relation of their thinking and our own. The basic works and ideas of each philosopher are fully explained as well as various suggestions for interpretation. THE WADSWORTH PHILOSOPHICAL TOPICS SERIES (under the general editorship of Robert Talisse, Vanderbilt University) presents readers with concise, timely, and insightful introductions to a variety of traditional and contemporary philosophical subjects. With this series, students of philosophy will be able to discover the richness of philosophical inquiry across a wide array of concepts, including hallmark philosophical themes and themes typically underrepresented in mainstream philosophy publishing. Written by a distinguished list of scholars who have garnered particular recognition for their excellence in teaching, this series presents the vast sweep of today's philosophical exploration in highly accessible and affordable volumes. These books will prove valuable to philosophy teachers and their students as well as to other readers who share a general interest in philosophy.

Francisco Goya (Great Hispanic Heritage) By Tim McNeese
Publisher: Ch[els]ea H[ous]e Publ[ic..ati]ons 2008 | 152 Pages | ISBN: 0791096645 | PDF | 1 MB

Only the barest of facts are known about Goya’s first 25 years of life. These early years remain little more than a vague shadow. He was born on March 30, 1746, in the small village of Fuendetodos, located near the capital of the former kingdom of Aragon, Saragossa, in northeast Spain. Saragossa was so close, in fact, that “at times a breeze would bring the sound of [its] church bells.”7 The small, simple house in which he was born, No. 18 Calle de Alfondiga, still stands today. The house was a plain cottage hut with dark, heavy stone walls punctuated by small windows.

Fragments of Life By Bronwyn Dalley, Bronwyn Labrum
Publisher: Au[ckl]and Univ[ers]ity Press 2000 | 248 Pages | ISBN: 1869401859 | PDF | 2 MB

History and history-making have never been more popular in New Zealand. Interest in the past is intense, as New Zealanders trace their family stories, explore their history at their local museum, or watch the unfolding of the country’s history on the small screen. Most often, it is our social history that arouses the greatest interest: the ways that New Zealanders have made sense of their lives and the events around them, the changes in the country’s social life, or the features of the local culture. Fragments speaks to this interest, and offers a snapshot of new research into the social and cultural history of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. The essays explore new topics in New Zealand historical research, offer new insights into established areas of study, and challenge received wisdom about some aspects of the past.Together, they explore the ways in which our history is made, and what makes our history.

Aching For Beauty: Footbinding in China By Wang Ping
Publisher: Uni[vers]ity Of Mi[nne]sota Press 2000 | 282 Pages | ISBN: 0816636052 , 0816636060 | PDF | 14 MB

A fascinating and haunting exploration of the bound foot in Chinese culture.
Why did so many Chinese women over a thousand-year period bind their feet, enduring rotting flesh, throbbing pain, and hampered mobility throughout their lives? What compelled mothers to bind the feet of their young daughters, forcing the girls to walk about on their doubled-over limbs to achieve the breakage of bones requisite for three-inch feet? Why did Chinese men find women's "golden lotuses"-stench and all-so arousing, inspiring beauty contests for feet, thousands of poems, and erotica in which bound, silk-slippered feet were fetishized and lusted after?
As a child growing up during the Cultural Revolution, Wang Ping fantasized about binding her own feet and tried to restrict their growth by wrapping them in elastic bandages. Even though footbinding was not practiced by every woman in late Imperial China, the aesthetic, financial, and erotic advantages of footbinding permeated all aspects of language, ranging from erotic poetry, novels, and performances to food writing, myths, folk songs and ditties, and secret women's writing, some of it hidden in embroidery. In Aching for Beauty, Wang interprets the mystery of footbinding as part of a womanly heritage-"a roaring ocean current of female language and culture."
She also shows that footbinding should not be viewed merely as a function of men's oppression of women, but rather as a phenomenon of male and female desire deeply rooted in traditional Chinese culture. Written in an elegant and powerful style, and filled with personal, intriguing, and sometimes paradoxical insights, Aching for Beauty builds bridges from the past to the present, East to West, history to literature, imagination to reality.

Death on Beacon Hill by P.B. Ryan is the third entry in the Gilded Age series starring governess Nell Sweeney. This is another outstanding book full of great mystery and snappy repartee between Nell and her beau Will Hewitt. In this book, Nell is asked to look into the death of Fiona, the niece of the Hewitt's driver, after she's accused of theft and the murder of her employer, Virginia Kimball, a famous actress. The chemistry between Nell and Will sparks the entire book, and there's a fabulous passage from Nell's view about how closely Will is coming to touch the frosted glass that must exist between them. It's powerfully and beautifully written. Ryan never hesitates to show the darker side of Boston's elite, but she always handles it so tastefully, much like Nell who must navigate the waters of the elite with the curse of an Irish surname and always comes out looking like a lady. Will finds the excuse to let them show some of their feelings for each other in public, but I wonder how long it will last. Of course, at least for a few pages, as in the rest of the books so far, the reader is allowed to believe that Harry Hewitt could have committed the murder, perhaps someday he actually will have

Swiftly paced and with quite a few cunning plot twists, "Murder in a Mill Town" was an enjoyable read from start to finish. At the heart of the series is the character of Nell Sweeney: an intelligent, intrepid and courageous woman who doesn't hesitate to do the right thing no matter the cost. Nell, is the main reason why this series really works and is so compelling. And by throwing in Nell's complicated and darker past into the mix, "Murder in a Mill Town" became an even more engaging and poignant read. With good historical detail and a cast of well fleshed out characters, "Murder in a Mill Town" makes for great reading.

So far, I've found every installment in the Nell Sweeney mystery series (set in Boston soon after the American Civil War) to be clever, well written and full of wonderful period detail and ambaince. P. B. Ryan is an excellent storyteller, and really knoew how to keep this reader's interest hooked. So that, while "Murder on a black Friday" had a rather uncomplicated storyline (unlike previous installments), the manner in which the author allowed for the plot to unfold really kept me glued to the pages I finished the book in one afternoon! Vivid and completely absorbing, "Murder on a black Friday" was a superb read and should not be missed, esp if you enjoy historical mysteries set in America during the Victorian period.

I expect a well written mystery about credible and lovable characters Nell and Will. Ryan is ahead of the pack when writing about Brahmin
Boston of the late 1800's. Have to metion the detective work on Nell's part and the forensic studies on Will's part. It makes for unbeatable hours of pleasurable reading.
